H&O Movie Review: We Bought a Zoo

Cameron Crowe directs while Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson star in this feel good family movie. Basically Matt Damon is a widower who buys a run-down zoo with his two kids and along with the help of the zoo staff helps fix the facility up and re-open the animal park. Its not funny enough to be considered a comedy, its not romantic enough to be considered a romantic love story. Like I said, it is a feel good, simple family movie.

I saw this movie with my Grandmother and Mother over the holidays. I am a big fan of director Cameron Crowe’s work (Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire, Elizabethtown). I think We Bought a Zoo is not Crowe’s best work. It is a decent story with some funny moments, but it left me wanting more. It is a heart-felt story that is very emotional at times. Its a simple, nice movie but nothing too special here.

Of course Scarlett Johansson is a smokeshow, so that is always nice.
